We are extremely proud to be in partnership with Youth Guidance®'s acclaimed program - Becoming A Man®.

Becoming A Man® helps young men overcome obstacles in their path to discover and realize their full potential - what Uomo D’oro calls, their inner champion.

Helping men find their inner champion is our purpose. And we couldn't have found a more impactful way to fulfill our mission than to work with this champion organization.

How it works

Becoming A Man® is a counseling program that guides young men in 7-12th grades to learn, internalize and practice social cognitive skills, make responsible decisions for their future and become positive members of their school and community. BAM integrates clinical theory and practice, men’s rites of passage work, and a dynamic approach to youth engagement. Each session is built around a lesson plan designed to develop a specific skill through stories, role-playing and group exercises.

BAM students learn and practice impulse control, emotional self-regulation, recognition of social cues and interpreting intentions of others, raising aspirations for the future and developing a sense of personal responsibility and integrity. Students who participate in B.A.M. are more likely to stay in school, develop healthy relationships, and stay out of the juvenile justice system.

For every 1100 pairs sold, a new public school will receive the life-changing benefits of the BAM program - a school that otherwise would not have access to without your support.

In its 15 year history, the BAM program has received many accolades, including high praise from former President Barack Obama. Most importantly, randomized controlled trials and rigorous studies by the University of Chicago Crime Lab have shown that BAM significantly reduces violent crime arrest and overall arrest, and increases high-school graduation rates, positively changing the trajectory of these young men’s life.
